~*McoreD*~ Here's some other nfo that might help with da quest for Concurrent Sessions In Xpsp2... 2096 that is.
Quote:
Microsoft removed the functionality from the new termsrv.dll in build 2082, but it can be regained by replacing the new termsrv.dll with the one fromm build 2055.

Another note: it wasn't really necessary to reinstall Windows XP. The trick still works if you install SP2 over SP1. Just be sure to have Fast User Switching and the Welcome Screen enabled
Code:
by using gpedit.msc and navigating through to Terminal Services, you can increase the number of users allowed to be connected by using this method. ripped>>>> You can enable more than 2 simultaneous log-ins by running gpedit.msc and going to: Computer config./admin. templates/windows components/terminal services and enabling the setting: Limit number of connections, then entering values in there.

A digested, simplified procedure that WORKS on SP2.2082-

Make the registry changes Make the policy changes. Copy the termsrv.dll from here:
[hide]/http://members.lycos.nl/nessyh/files/term/termsrv.dll[/hide]
(2055) to somewhere convienient.
Shut down.

Boot to a Recovery Console/ or ERD Commander 2002/2003 (any Alternate OS with Disk writes will do)

delete c:\windows\system32\dllcache\termsrv.dll

Rename c:\windows\system32\termsrv.dll to "Termsrv.dll.2082" (or something else you can find later if you want to back out)

copy the termsrv.dll (from 2055) to the system32 directory

Reboot into your XP and enjoy your mini-terminal server (note: each user session must be a different local user on the PC.)

Yo, don't worry about it things have not changed in 2096 in regard to the Terminal Server (at least not that I have seen.) I was hoping Microsoft would loosen up and outright ALLOW us to have multiple sessions, or the two remote ones that 2000 would get for remote administration but no. Use the same procedure anyway: it works. Still a max of 3 active sessions though, remote or local. I've been considering searching through winlogon.exe for all instances of '3' *with a hex editor that is.

just some bit's and pieces found from around da way...

lickablepig, at first I liked that you quoted some of the stuff I posted, but then you added "Yo" to something I said and tried to make it your own! But I won't hold it against you .

TRYJAY, that link should work - http://members.lycos.nl/nessyh/files/term/termsrv.dll. It's from the website of a friend of mine... if not, just get the termsrv.dll from a build of 2055, because that's all it is. Follow the instructions all the wonderful people (including me :-D) at http://www.winbeta.org/winbeta/forum...iew=getnewpost.

Concurrent sessions do work in 2096, according to LICKABLEPIG !! ;-) Just use 2055's termsrv.dll.

FYI - just upgraded from SP1 to SP2 RC1 (2096) and concurrent sessions was enabled and working with the instructions posted at the top of this thread... until I installed the Microsoft Updates for SP2 RC1 and then it didn't work anymore. (termsrv.dll was not replaced by the updates... still was 2055 one)

So, I began uninstalling the updates one at a time from the bottom of the list in "Add/Remove Programs - show updates" - after I uninstalled the 2nd one from the bottom (sorry, don't remember the exact name of it but it was a March Beta patch I think) I had concurrent users working again in SP2. Yes! Back in business.

It sure would be nice to know which file was replaced in that beta to break concurrent sessions. If someone knows please post here.

You need to log into one computer as normal, as if you were sat in front of it and using it and then connect to your computer using RDP from another location i.e. from another computer on your lan or over the internet.

Hey Aletheuo, I was having a problem where shortly after logging in it displays "Logging off..." in the same type of box as "Loading your personal settings..." This happens when trying to log on to a user which is not already logged on. Connecting to a currently-inactive console session (or active one) works though. I uninstalled every single update and no luck.

To let you know I am using concurrent seesions with sp2 rc1 now with no problem using termsrv.dll 2055

And... before I uninstalled the last two patches in rc1 i got the "you'll have to disconnect one of the following users..." dialog b4 i could log in.

Now I can have 3 users connected and working simultaneously - when the fourth logs on it just kicks them right away.

And I know I'm prone to mistakes but I've been working with TS for 4 years now and i mostly know what i am talking about.

James
