Yeh the same thing happend to me a while back when i was running norton 2003 i clicked on this doom3 nocd exe i got from the net and it nearly destroyed most of my system and norton didnt even pick it up,so i installed another brand like you did and it picked it up straight away,so yeh noton makes you wonder allthough i like nortons firewall its really easy to use.

havent got any problem with norton and been using this for 7 years now. i remember there was time that i was hit by a localy made virus, luckily it was not that destructive and easily remove but this is not the fault of norton since the virus def table is not updated.

I have been using NAV since V1.0 (DOS). The only problem I have had has been only after I installed it on XP; after a few months, the scheduled scan stops working, something about 'rights' to a file. After re-installing it, it works fine again. I am using NAV 2004 Beta and haven't had a virus on any of my PCs, except for one time I got W32.HLLW.Qaz.A. after which I got Norton Personal Firewall. Symantec comes out with the new virus defs fast enough, that if you do get infected, chances are you are behind in the updates.

New definitions for viruses come out daily. I wouldnt put total blame on Norton, as they can only update as they become aware.

Best thing you can do is backup your data on a set schedule. But even then you could end up backing up a virus inadertantly and thats no good either.

I am also a Norton AntiVirus user. I have got a question for ya. Are you used to run your computer as an Administrator all the time? And is your harddisk formatted as NTFS?
...assuming that you are using Windows 2000/XP.

I have NAV Corporate Ed and haven't had a problem.

If its a brand new virus, there isn't much they can do.

Why you should not run your computer as an administrator
Running Windows 2000 or Windows XP as an administrator makes the system vulnerable to Trojan horses and other security risks.
