Hi Folks, I am with DopeWeasel too. Win2K Server (IIS) does a good job of Serving files in a variety of ways. It will even support better Security such as VPN connections.

DopeWeasel can only hope to improve
Well, on the not of security Crowdirt, IIS is still far from unhackable, but not bad at all. For most ppl I'd still recomend BulletProof as it's quite simpler to use yet still one of the most fully featured sets.

ok, now we're going a total different way with this one...
Here are my recommendations:

1. RaidenFTPD -> BEST ftp-server there is right now, but very hard to setup the right way...
2. WarFTPD --> first of all it's free, second it allows remote administration, third it's faster then Serv-U

Both those servers are being used by almost every big user of FTP-servers. Serv-U is way too unstable, and it's very hard to find some add-ons for it (sfv-checker, eggdrop etc)

anyway, there are heaps and heaps of FTP-servers on the internet. Most of the time ppl choose ftp-server because of personal preference, so if you want a good one, I suggest you check out the ones you find, and take the one you like the most...

Good luck!!!

I thought my connection was the bottleneck for my connection speed. Do you mean Serv-U is generating overhead an therefor is wasting bandwidth?

Serv-U is also free ( ) with the right "add-on", it's very easy to configure, can be used behind a firewall/NAT router, has a perfect remote administration feature and doesn't seem slow . . .

Please report back RedBully, cause I hate to waste bandwidth since I haven't got enough of it as it is

Cheers
Cactus

Well to be honest I don't know where the problem is, but I have tried both the servers out (Serv-U and WarFTPD)
I noticed a big difference in speed, but again I don't know why. I had them both configured the same way, both on the same machine, same isp,...

Here are the stats:
[list:44bceb696c]
[*:44bceb696c]Serv-U: Max BW: 850 K
[*:44bceb696c]WarFTPD: Max BW: 950 K[/list:u:44bceb696c]

I have been playing around with a LOT of different ftp servers, and I still stick to the 2 I gave up before. both using very little system resources, and using max BW all the time.
Plus they both allow remote administration too!
I kinda need it myself since my server isn't located at my home...

Of course if you u/l limit is capped at 50 K I don't htink you'll noticed a big difference...

anyhoo, I still think it's merely a personal choice of what you think is best...
