It even says floopy right on the ide label.
Maybe u misunstood. I am using all three on the mother board. Two are the ide like it says and one is floopy. One ide has two drives on it. And the other has a cdrw and dvd rw. Tried talking him into just using the dvd rw since it burns at 48 but he burns cds like crazy and still wants 52x. lol But still trying to talk him out of but he really just wants a pic card for it.
Well can u even do that. Never tried it and dont want to break anything.
That is a hard drive and a dvd rw dive on one ide. Or do they have to be the same device? Like two hard drives or two cdrws or two whatever. Like i got him setup now.
1 - Maybe I missunderstod you, due to the lack of a rational explanation in our post
2 - This motherboard has 1 floppy connector, and 2 IDE connectors.
3 - Floppy is
not IDE, the floppy connector can be used for max 2 floppy drives.
4 - Each IDE connector is 1 channel, capable of 2 devices ( Master and Slave ).
5 - You can have a total of 4 IDE devices connected at the same time, directly to this mobo.
6 - You can mix "any" combination of IDE devices on each channel, as long as they have been set up as MAster/Slave or cable select.
Conclusion:
A: your brother can add his new HD directly to his computer,
if he removes one of his optical drives.
B: your brother can keep his CDRW and DVDRW, add a PCI IDE controller card and hook his new HD to that one.
A will be for "free", but B will cost him some $, and
you some worktime and headache
while helping him.
