Let me add that I am pretty lucky to have such vanilla hardware that is supported by most software. The worst thing is sitting with e.g a broadcom NIC or a HP Deskjet 720 (uses crappy PPA), which is never supported by anything because the manufacturer is not very happy to give the spec sheets out to linux/bsd-developers.

Hola JacKDynne, nice to see that you are still alive

Hi,

I have downloaded and played with the Knoppix live CD. It allows you to use and experience Linux (Debian flavor) without actually having to install it. It is an amazing disk and has so many programs built-in you don't really need anything else. Just boot from the CD and start using it. It easily detects and automatically sets up my broadband connection to the internet. In 3 minutes I can be surfing using Mozilla. Best of all, like most Linuxes it can be downloaded and used for free.

Xandros 2.0 makes installation and configuring as easy as WindowsXP. I planned to move over to Xandros permanently, but I've been doing so much DVD stuff lately that I figure Windows is really the only option for that. So Linux, tho still the default system on my #2 PC, has taken a back seat for the moment. Hopefully we'll see more good programs in the DVD domain for Linux.

Thanks for the info marcovaleriof, I'll look into it.

Admit I haven't spent a lot of time on the subject. Been busy capturing a bunch of old VHS-C family video movies, and that is so easy with Windows and all the more or less polished software available now. Once the dust settles, I'll get back to Linux.
