I just attempted to install Norton Antivirus 2003 Professional Edition on Win XP Pro and received the following Fatal Error dialog box: "Installation ended prematurely because of an error". I have NAV 2002 installed and made attempts to install NAV 2003 Pro with and also with NAV 2002 uninstalled utilizing the Symantec NAV uninstaller. Used RegCleaner, still no luck!
This system is in dual boot configuration with Win 2K SP3 and had no trouble installing NAV 2003 Pro on it.
If you have any ideas, let me know. Thanks!

All I can say is I had the same problem, uninstall NAV2002 (manually clean Registry) then try to install NAV2003 and I got the same error. Tried different copies, still no luck. My fix was to install Mcafee VirusScan Pro 7.0 which I actually like so far and seems to be less of a drag on the system especially at startup.
By the way NAV2002 would reinstall no problem.
Good Luck

My NAV 2003 works without problems. What u need to do is if u are on XP, go to "Add/Delete Programs" Remove the NAV 2002, it will uninstall almost of anything, then install NAV 2003. Works good. Done that in 3 different machines. XP, XP Home and Win 98 as my server. Works wonders if you completely remove the older versions of NAV 2002.

Thanks to all of you that have replied. I will attempt to do the Add/Remove through Windows routine, WECoyote. If this does not work, I will reformat and install Windows with NAV 2003 at the end of the year as my NAV 2002 Live Update subcription expires at that time. I have a gut feeling the NAV.MSI file is in conflict with Win XP SP1. This code was written prior to SP1 and would not be surprised if there is an update after SP1's official release. Just a hunch. <_<

Outback--

I am already on SP1 and the NAV.MSI is not the problem. Possibly that there is some "leftover" NAV 2002 junked-up garbage got stuck in the Registry. You can go to Regedit and take anything that pertains "NAV" and delete them safely (Backup first!!!) and then try to reinstall NAV 2003 again.. IT should work this time. besides, I'm happy with the SP1 and running on Devilsown, all I did was simply do some key changes and tweaks. Thats all it takes.

Yea war59312! I had the same problem when I attempted to re-install NAV 2002 after I failed at installing NAV 2003 Pro. I cleaned out the registry and still the same crap! I'm going to wait till I do a clean install. This all takes up too much of my time.

I'll tell you what, I ended up taking out Norton 2003, everytime I wanted to update a driver or even add a virtual cd norton went off, I believe this version is way to picky, gave problems with messenger, I mean it wouldn't let me do a damn thing, so I went back to 2002
