Nintendo felt it was too hard and Japanese
AFTER more than 20 years saying that its sequel to Super Mario Bros 2 was too hard for Americans, Nintendo has finally released it over the pond.
Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels as the title has now been called was first released in Japan in the early 1980s with the title Sūpā Mario Burazāzu 2.
However Nintendo thought the game was too difficult for US players and was a little too concerned that the land of the free might consider it too 'Japanese'. So it was never released.
It did release an American version of Super Mario Bros 2 but it was so cut down it did as well as the Bob Hoskins movie of the game.
Now it seems Nintendo has run away best seller on its hands by sticking the original game on its Wii Virtual Console. According to
Slate the game is the second most popular on the service.
Nintendo was right about gamers finding it hard. Although whether or not it would just be North Americans who would find it tricky is another matter.
