Firefox lets kids download porn
Vista parental controls ignored
WHOOPS. Kids wanting to download pictures of pliant young donkeys should make sure they're using Vista and Firefox rather than Internet Exploder.
The latest version of the freebie browser ignores Vista's Parental Controls and allows file downloads that should be blocked under Vista's parental control settings. A patch is promised at an unspecified future date.
Firefox 2.0.0.4, released yesterday, includes the following in its readme file: "Vista Parental Controls are not completely honored. In particular, file downloads do not honor Vista's parental control settings. This will be addressed in an upcoming Firefox release."
So parents who fondly believe Vista is keeping their kids safe online will no doubt be reassured to learn that Firefox allows their offspring to download whatever the hell they want.
Free software. It's worth every penny.
