Even the best laid plans can go wrong, as scientists in Canada found out to their cost this week.
Thousands of pounds had been spent fitting electronic transmitters to a number of geese, so that the scientists could track their migration habits.
After following one particular bird for thousands of miles, the boffins assumed that he had settled down for the winter, warm and cosy in his nest. But when they checked, the poor goose was actually lying in a far from cosy freezer waiting to be cooked after being shot down by a hungry Eskimo!
