Setting up a mail, dns, domain server for local lan use is problem what you have in mind. But all ears indeed. post what your thinking of and more brainstorming can take place.

Second, what type of hardware do you have available allready ?

Oh.. got another one interested in creating a pop/web server have we? Still alive with that project? I used:

works nicely.. comes with sql, php, and a nice little backend to help admin.
