Image a network drive?
Is it possible to image a workstation from the server without needing to install anything on the workstation?

The server has full access to the drives and can browse the entire drive through the network. I have seen several image programs that can store the image on a network drive but I'm looking for the opposite, imaging a network drive and storing the image locally.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Ghost enterprise v8x would do that, or Symantec Live State Recovery Server
maybe there are some cheaper applications also, this two just popped my mind at d moment

Thanks, I looked at the "Live State" program but I thought that you needed to install some kind of "agent" on the workstations.
I wanted to see if it was possible without needing to install anything on them.

I'll see if I can find some documentation on the ghost enterprise, but that sounds kind of expensive. I already had to get the regular ghost version.

edit- If it's any help, the "server" isn't running a server version of windows. It's using "regular" windows 2000 pro sp4 because there are only 6 windows 98 workstations networked to it.
The "workstations" are actually point of sales terminals. They are posiflex jiva's with touch screen's with no attached keyboards. I could attach a keyboard but I'm really reluctant to install any software on them unless I have to because even though they are windows 98, they have been rock solid stable because all they run is a retail POS program.

Sounds like the stuff we have at work here. If you go into the back office we have a old PC (tower and all) for the old PCs.

I'll ask what they use for remote imaging on the terminal services today.

I know we Citrix for the logic network.. its really really cool that you can safe sessions from cash, print the bar code, and then resume the session on another from the bar code.

I'll check. but ya.. I'm not 100% on the systems, besides what I see (my job isn't technical.. bussing tables, etc. But I'll ask one of the managers on duty.

I've not tried it myself but I believe you can image partitions/drives remotely with Acronis True Image 8.0 Corporate Work Station.
