XP in a network?
Greetings to all.

Need your assistance on this: I have a 25 pc network set up. All machines are running XP Prof with SP2. As you know XP can only communicate with 10 others at a time. Is there any way to get past this or will I have to load something like Server 2003?

Your help will be appreciated.

I had never heard of that limitation before, but I imagine it's there to force you to buy Server 2003. Typical Vole-like behavior.

Isn't 10 connections at the same time enough?
why do they need 25 simultanious connections to stream data?

Server 2003 has also it's "connected clients" limits, buying extra licenses,be it server-wise or per client will make it a costly solution.......

Apparently there is no way to change this limit. Once you have maximum connections, one computer must log off before a new one can join the group.

So if I wanted to use software like Netop School, where you need to be connected to all the pc's in the network, it would seem that Server 2003 is needed for this.

Yup.. you said it. Client Service environments demand a server of sorts.

You can beat or massage Linux into submition giving your domains, and delagation, I've heard it can be done, in my Windows 2000 Class of all places..

Ok, went and loaded the test version of Netop school on the xp "Server" and guess what..... it works. It monitors all 25 pc's at the same time and it thus functions as it should. Don't know if Netop School has an inbuilt server of sorts but it just works. Sure is a nice program for training on pc's

Thanks for the replies.
