One Sata drive in Asus board --not recognized
I have a buddy in MS who has a new Asus A8V-Deluxe mobo, with 939 pin AMD. He's got one WD SATA drive in it and at boot time it recognizes the floppy drive, CD drive, but not the HD. He thinks he has the bios settings correct and is wondering how to set up the hd to be recognized.

I have two ASUS boards, one with intel, the other with AMD, the intel (P4C800) boots from a SATA drive and I don't recall a problem. In the newer one (A8N) I put in an IDE drive for booting, so didn't run across this question.

My thoughts to my buddy were that he should be able to run the WD utilities from a floppy or from a CD and prepare the SATA drive.

Has anyone any helpful comments who may have been through this in recent times?

May have found the answer. Found a post on AMD's forum. The Asus A8V board was shipped with a BIOS that doesn't recognize certain models of the 939 pin CPU. Also that it's necessary to install SATA drivers before the HD will be recognized, which of course, means the single drive can't be recognized "out of the box".
