Only thing I can think of right away is that you either have the wrong firmware package or you don't have the drive that you think that you do. There should be a way to check the serial number on the drive to make sure you didn't get duped. It's not impossible that LG put the wrong drive in your box before shipment, or if you bought it OEM it is possible that you got a fake... check your serial number.

Also, if at all possible, move the DVD-RW drive to a different IDE channel by itself. Having more then one writer on an IDE channel can cause you to have cross-talk between the drives and other funny problems that could possibly give you read/write errors.

Could be as DopeWeasel says....if you're shure everything matches,then you can try this:
Put the drive seperate on an ide channel,then try to remove the idedrivers @ device manager,replace them by windows native busmaster drivers,disable any system monitoring program and set the transfer mode to PIO instead of DMA before the flash attempt...
What ide cable are you using?40 pin or 80 pin?
