I have a close friend who purchased a Western Digital 100gb 7200rpm hard drive. When he tried to fdisk, it told him that the hard drive was too large and would not handle such a large drive. How do you partition a large hard drive. Do you all use Partition Magic 7 or so other s/w to fdisk and format a large hard drive.

Please help,

ROJAS

I never tried a 100GB with FDISK but I have used it with success up to a 80GB WDC, yes give the latest Partition Magic a try or you could just use the floppy that came with the drive to set it up or if it was a oem drive download the data lifeguard tools from the WDC website.

You will first need to see if your computer bios supports such a large drive, I have A SOYO Dragon + and they just released a bios update to support drives larger than 137GB. And my Motherboard is pretty new they just came out less than a year ago....

If you are using Win98 .
I am sure it only support HD size up to 80Gig

you need to use WinME or XP greater than 80 Gig !

The fdisk that comes with Windows 98 and 98SE has a 64GB limitation for FAT32. To get past that you can use fdisk from ME or there is an update availible from MS download center.
BTW- Win-2000 and XP have a 32GB FAT32 limit.

edit- Here is an article that explains it.
