Stack overflow problems using GHOST

I have used Ghost dozens of times over several years, and had good luck with it always
Today when I was loading Ghost(ver 2003 with MS-Dos) it was about 99 percent loaded...the grey screen came up but the Ghost menu etc did not appear. The mouse is frozen in the middle of the screen. When I hit Enter a message appeared
"An internal stack overflow has caused this session to be halted. Change the stack setting in your config.Sys file and try again."
I have never had anything to do with Stack overflow even though I have heard of it.

The Config.sys on the Ghost boot disk has 15 bytes and only the following line
"LASTDRIVE = Z".

Anybody know how to proceed with this?? Please be specific.

Is this a version of Ghost booted from a bootfloppy known to work good since houndred of times?

Yes, I have used this very same bootfloppy ever since Ghost 2003 came out. I also have 2 identical backup copies of it because it works so well.
In the last few days I did download the 2 latest Microsoft updates which were recommended updates.
I will try reversing these updates tonight when I get home from work.

I did a system restore to reverse the 2 latest MS updates, but it made no difference.

I remember Stack Overflow problems from years ago, but never had any such problem until now. It could be related to memory not being available to Dos programs, but that does not make sense with the 2 gig of very fast ram and a 3.0 Ghz CPU.

What about the commanf for putting things into the upper memory blocks (UMB ) or extended memory?
Think it was himem.sys

Hold it... Can we try some simple logic?
The boot floppy is old and well proven. It is used for booting the computer and at the same time loading Ghost 2003. In that process something bad happens. Why should any Microsoft update (or any content of the hard drive) be of concern here? There are two parameters only: the hardware and the boot floppy.
Do the following:
Try the boot floppy with another computer. Does it work? Then you have a hardware problem with your (first) computer. Do you get the same problem as described above once again? Then get rid of the floppy and make a new one from your backup.

I found out that it is Ghost 2003 that is incompatible with SATA hard drives. As soon as I disconnected the newly hooked up Sata drive Ghost worked perfectly again.
Now I just have to find out if newer ver og Ghost IS compatible with SATA h drives.

The Ghost 2003 floppy is ok, and I have used it many times...it just is not compatible with SATA drives.

A hardware change --> hardware problem then. Solved, but the situation is not to any satisfaction. Now everything really should be fine as Ghost 8 in fact supports SATA drives. You might have a Intel problem:

  If you are experiencing problems like Ghost hanging, locking up, or freezing when loading or while "initializing TCP/IP" once Ghost loads, the problem lies with the interrupt handling for the Intel 865 Chipsets and later. Upgrading to the latest version of Norton Ghost 2003 or Symantec Ghost 8.x resolves the problem. Also, see the Technical Information section below for information about an update to Symantec Ghost 7.5.
  
  Workaround
  Depending upon the mix of SATA and IDE drives installed to your system, one of the following switches should resolve the problem: If you have an IDE and an SATA drive, or only IDE drives:
 -FNI	Forces Ghost to use the BIOS to gain access to the IDE drive.
If you have an SATA drive and no IDE drives:-NOIDE	Disables access to IDE devices.

In any case you should update Ghost and everyting will be fine.

Yes...Ghost 8 Corp worked fine. thanks.But during booting GHost 8, a message came up saying that " Aspi4Dos.SYS installation failed".

I have used Acronis in the past, but I did not like the fact that you cannot verify the image.

Has anyone made a GHost diskette with the latest Ghost in Norton SysWorks 2005?
Wonder if it is ny different.
The Corp 8 version requires 2 diskettes.
