I think there is a firmware update out! not sure though I think i have the 4040B (i think), there is a firmware update but i need to figure out which bios version I have first, and make sure I have the right drive identified, thanks Betaone Family, your help is really appreciated

tubebuoy is on a distinguished road
Most burning apps should tell you something about your drive. NTI CD maker tells you your firmware version in parenthases. EG: TDK 4800B (s7s8).

Down a demo if you need it (ntius.com).
