Followed this from WinBeta: Step 1) Extract the Service Pack files to a dir. Rename IPSELPID.DL_ to PIDGEN.DL_ and IPSELDPC.DL_ to DPCDLL.DL_

Did a clean install from slipstreamed CD.

Would not accept any Corp. keys I tried.
Accepted a old 2600 beta key.
Works fine 30 days to activate.
as of 1097, you don't need to rename any DLLs anymore....so if you were installing 1097 & renamed some DLLs, maybe that's what caused your problem

in my case, i was using a 1097 slipstreamed XP to "Upgrade" a current XP, and when it asked for my VLK, and i entered the one i used for the original install, i now got an INVALID KEY message....had to try another gen'd Corp key to get it to work....weird
