When I play a Quicktime movie in a web page, I have to wait until the whole movie downloads before I can view any of it (the quicktime player does not load until the movie is completely finished.) However, if I play a movie within a webpage (such as view trailers on the quicktime web site), the player does open before the movie is finished. Anyone know how to have the player open while the movie is downloading? Thanks for the help.

Dont have quicktime installed at the moment so i'm not sure. You could try altering the buffer settings. Make sure that you are not buffering the full clip before playback. You can do this via the qt applet in controll pannel

Thanks for the help, but the problem does not affect streaming movies that cannot be saved but .mov files. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't quite understand the distinction, but here are two settings to fool with:

go to Control Panel / QuickTime Settings / Browser Plug-in
or to QT Player menu bar/ Edit / QuickTime Preferences / Browser Plug-in
then check the box to enable "Play movies automatically"

go to QT Player menu bar/ Edit / Player Preferences / Movies
then check the box to enable "Automatically play movies when opened"
