Hi Al,

I haven't had any problem for the program to remeber my settings. I unzipped the program files (both files) in a folder re: \PGtGM and ran the exe and set my config (Told it to restart with Windows). When you exit the program it saves the settings and I noticed to the registry. So no, it isn't normal to reconfigure the program everytime you run it.

Could it be that some security software is blocking the proggy to write itself to your registry?

Cheers,

Hey Hunted,

Thanks for testing both apps out and straightening things out as to how much resources are taken up with each app.

Well, I did a comparison myself and look what I found:

Look at the number of threads, and look at Virtual Memory size ! ( this column is overlooked by the majority of people because it's not activated by default ).

You can easiliy reproduce the results on your system. Just start both programs, and do a mail check. In task manager, choose View->Select Columns... and select : "Virtual Memory Size" and "Thread Count" Then look in task manager and see the difference...

Hello All,

Well it looks like Google has come out with their own tool to check for GMail messages without having to open up the browser.

GMail Notifier:
hxxp://toolbar.google.com/gmail-helper/

Quote:
The Gmail Notifier is a downloadable Windows application that alerts you when you have new Gmail messages. It displays an icon in your system tray to let you know if you have unread Gmail messages, and shows you their subjects, senders and snippets, all without your having to open a web browser.

About pgtgm........how do you get it to retain settings? Is it normal to have to reconfigure it everytime you restart it?

Al, start the program and enter your details then close the program. Next time you start the program the settings will be saved- i had the same problem for a while untill i realised that the setting's were not saved when you reboot the computer- i used to leave it running all the time till i rebooted and the settings were not saved.
