I always have a headace with this.
Share the profiles directory using the File Sharing Wizard in Server 2003, cant remember but I think its Admins Full, everyone else read/write. Also make sure this directory isn't in anything else that is shared. ie its best to put it on the root of a hard drive partition and share it that way, not the hard drive partition root.
Give that a whirl.
