Installed the latest beta to see how far the project had progressed only to find the damn thing had regressed instead. Upon first reboot generic Host Process for Win 32 crashed- bit of De ja Vu there- Network Connector Service failed to start- couldnt edit or view network connections and then windows explorer died and refused to restart. Not a good first impression!

Rebooted to see if that would help but got the same errors, wonderfull, MS Strikes again.

Windows beta client refused to run meaning i couldnt bug the damn errors and now MS has, in their infinite wisdom or lack of as the case may be, disabled the ability to file reports via the windows beta website.

Uninstalled the damn thing to find XP SP1 is now corrupt as well, network problems like SP2. Can't view or edit network connections.

FU-CK them, this piece of poopie is as screwed as Windows ME. The chances of me even downloading the next build are about as high as microsoft employing a fair business practice towards Lindows (i will still use their proper name, no gagging order on me!). As far as them expecting me to reccomend this piece of verminous crap to both exisiting and prospective clients as a Security Update they have no chance at all- i will wait for 12 months after the release date when the 3 dozen sp2 fixes have been released and tested. At least then users will know what the failings are.

I know it's a beta, i'm part of the beta test team, but for MS to release this piece of crap as a new build is unbelievable- go back to the alpha builds and start again, you obviously made some serious errors somewhere along the lines.

I have to say that rather than installing the latestest ADOBE hotfix from microsoft (it as well caused problems (( I Unistalled it on the other box I just switched to firefox for my secure browsing needs))

It also looks like the latest updates are going to force you to upgrade to the idle bandwidth downloading (BITS 2.0 Background intellgent transfer service), and new update interface, I have choosen to pass on these updates as well.

Thanks for the info on the latest SP2 Build, Dog I must say that you must be slighty machoistic to beta test a service pack. LMAO. A glutton for punishment. (unless your just re-imaging with Ghost ) Thank you for you unselfish bravery, in the universal never ending war on Microsoft Bugs.

Cheers Mate

anyone else getting endless explorer crashes when trying to right click the start tab, or when in explorer?
I must say, the last release, 2149 seemed much more stable and solid..
I will give it a day or so, but I think I am rolling back shortly also...

Actually i'm downloading linux to overcome the problem we know and love to hate called microsoft. Going to dual boot with Mandrake 10 untill i'm comfortable with it and then will use it as my main OS. There are 3 box's here and 2 will still run Microshite software (paid an extortionate amount of money for licenses so i will still use them) but my man rig will be linux. I've had enough of MS and the inherant inabillity to provide their customers with a safe working OS, maybe it's time to dump the OEM Partnership and see what the linux Distributors will offer to OEM partners.

Um no problems here at all. Upgrade over Windows XP SP1. Was brave enough to update my main machine.

Working great. Only problem was that I lost my folder settings but thats since been fixed.

Um I do notice you cant open download links in a new window in IE anymore. Internet Explorer Makes a little sound and kills the download window. Pretty annorying. Plus you cant even download correctly from http://www.majorgeeks.com/ anymore. Little bar comes up every time and you have to tell it yes to allow.

Other than that all good. Even wireless network still up and running smoothly.

cya,
Will

DoG, Sorry to here your troubles with the build 2162.

I would expect 2149 to be much more stabler than 2162 and hence why they released it as a Public Release Candidate. They postponed the RC2 release date twice and made sure they are releasing a stable buid because they are realising it to the General Public.

This build 2162, is only released to MS Beta Testers - to a very less # number of people. Obviously Microsoft have tried implementing some new features and unfortunately has become unstable.

Hi

Installed 2162 after taking out 2149 and I don't have any problems .... so far.

Even tried downloading from majorgeeks and did not see the 'little bar' that Will talks about.

Regards
