Talk about bs.

zzzzzzz

On the other hand, I have several laptops and they all came with Home. Yet I run two desk tops all the time for the same work and refuse to buy two copies of XP for them, so no way I'll pay for the second copy since the applications are the same and the customer is the same.

I am sort of torn by this question. On the one hand, giving pirates the ability to install a service pack is a genuine benefit to the pirate. It allows her/him to obtain the latest bug fixes, patches, etc. for a product they have basically stolen.

On the other hand, a side effect is that if a pirate is more protected from some of the bad things out there that can be spread and do a lot of damage, then we all in some small way better off.

I can see why it would be hard for Microsoft to allow pirated users' copies of Windows the ability to install a service pack. They lose billions each year from "shared" software. I myself have used such items, so I'm not talking about the morality of the issue. Just the nuts and bolts.

In the end, I say let ALL users update to SP2. Microsoft just needs to improve the anti-piracy measures they are working on.

Yada yada yada...

I wonder who put that text at The REG! together. I mean, software isn't hardware...
If I bought a car that crashed several times a week I think the manufacturer would be ashamed and apologize for such a crappy product.

In my opinion ------- (censor filter in action) should be a little more humble, stop hazzle people and make a better protection scheeme for their products. The whole discussion is unworthy. You can't see this is anything else but the old common whining from ------- (censor filter in action) telling us how much money they loose every day. Lobbying... The computer press shouldn't push this.

I have several legit copies of XP (bundled stuff, paid for) and I hope SP2 will be free to anyone using the OS.

at least for the pirates Microsoft can detect.
SP2 is all about "detection" not security.

vis0r: The colors are cool but I think you need some pixel fonts (for the sig).

EDIT: Seems as they are pixel fonts after all, sorry.
