OK guys, here's a strange one....Just rebuilt my comp with new MB and Proc, and Power Supply...Everything works great except for one really strange phenomena...The damn board won't get past the BIOS boot screen with my CDRW hooked up...Hangs at the detecting drives stage...Can't even get into the BIOS at that point...Nothing wrong with the drive as it works fine in the other 3 comps in the house...Now here's the wierd part, as soon as I hook up the IDE cable, there's no power to the drive...won't open or anything...It's not the drive controller on the board as I even tried a PCI IDE controller card, same thing...really wierd...Any ideas??

Specs...

AMD AthlonXp2500+ w/Barton core
Abit AN-7 board
512 PC 3200
Antec 400W PS

Everything within spec running all at default (no overclocking)

I consider myself fairly good at this type of thing, but I'm totally lost at this point...I could buy another burner , but that's not the point...

Any help would be greatly appreciated....TIA

Try a different IDE cable and also try a different power connector from the power supply. Then make sure there are no 'master' and 'slave' jumper issues. Also, some of the new IDE cables only let you put a 'master' drive on the end connector and a 'slave' drive on the middle connector.

After you try what "mikeh420" then try and see if you can get it to boot up with only hard drive on primary buss and cd rom on the secondary buss. If it will boot then make sure all drivers for the system board are installed and then try setting it back to slave. Also check the power connectors and be sure the pins are plugged in all the way in the connector.

Although I think you may have it fixed with another cable by now.

Thanks
Dudelive

Similar to what mikeh420 said, some drives have a trouble-shooting mechanism. Try putting dual jumpers on master-slave and master-cable select. See if that won't at least get you to get through the boot phase.
