Hi all

I am about to format and reinstall my 'already activated', "legal" version of XP Home and I have read many times in this form that there is a file that you can copy 'before' you format and after reinstallation, you can just copy this file back in the directory it came from and after rebooting, you are already activated, thus saving you the hassle of re-activating.

I'm not sure if this still applies but if it does, could someone please tell me the name of the file and it's location, also if I have the procedure correct, please?

Regards

wpa.dbl resides in the Windows\system32. And yes, copying it back will "keep" your activated status.

Hi SuperTech

Many thanks for your response.

So that I am clear on this, the file called wpa.dbl does not exist in the
Windows\system32 until XP is activated?

So if I copy this file and reinstall XP, when I copy the file back to Windows\system32, there will be nothing to overwrite......correct?

Do I need to reboot first or is XP immediately activated?

Many thanks for your help

Regards
