In the past, VIA chipsets caused grief with ATI video cards. My last gigabyte board had a VIA chipset, and I had to search for a different release to get my computer to run as it should. Was quite annoying, but once I got it working it was cool.

Alot of boards are now coming with NVIDIA chipsets - I hear nothing but good about them. Maybe see if you can find a comparable board with NVIDIA?

well at the time of posting this, i was looking at about a $50 board and most of them had via chipsets, but since i can't get all of my speakers working and because my board (nvidia chipset, biostar mb) doesn't have a gameport on it, I'm just going to take my board out and use it in my uncle's mom's computer that I'm building her and I'm going to order me a better one with a gameport on it and it will be a nvidia chipset.

i know i could just buy a gameport to usb adapter but they are $15 - $20 and that still wouldn't fix my sound problem.

so thanks everyone for your replies.
