Here is a free program that I have found very useful. It makes turning off startup items very simple. It will disable and also re-enable programs that get installed and place themselves in the start up when computer is rebooted or started up.

Yes "war59312" you are right, that comes with most windows systems but this program is really nice in the fact that beginners will not be afraid to change things.
Within the program there is a description of each item and what it does in plain english, that makes it simpler for beginners also.

Basically this is a tool that edits the contents of your X:/documents and settings/<username>/start menu/startup/ folder, and the two registry keys that end in /Run (right above /RunOnce)

It does just seem like a tool for people who are too scared to touch the registry. But that is my opinion.
