is there a way to make a remote desktop connection to a pc behind a router, and how to configer the router to accept the connection.

damn u just need to find out what ports to open for the router...

dont recall at the moment...

it might be 3389 and 3390...try both of those and see what happens...

allow both ports in your firewall and forward them to the correct ip address

i believe those are the correct ports but not 100% sure...

if not u can also try 5800 and 5900

Remote desktop uses only 3389 AFAIK. 5800 and 5900 are used by VNC.

If you have several PCs you wish to be able to connect to remotly, you could map a different port to each PC, like I am doing:

3389 -> server's port 3389
3390 -> PC1's port 3389
3391 -> PC2's port 3389

And type the port number in the box in the client (eg yourip:3390 to connect to PC1)

This is of course different to every router. Your router must not only accept the connectio on port 3389, if it is in NAT mode it must also forward that incoming connection to the (LAN/Private) ip address of the pc you want to connect to.

You can save and edit the *.rdp file that is created by the RDP client software, so that it uses the correct port, specify wether or not you want to connect to the console (in case of a W2K3 server) and even the name and password can be saved.

In order to connect to the pc you must have an external address to connect to (in the world of ip at least) so if the internal ip address is one of the private ones (192.168.x.x for class c which is pretty typical) you MUST have an "outside" address/port to connect to that is then mapped to the internal address/port. Everyones answers thus far have been on the mark - perhaps you may need to rephrase the question

thanks , that is exactly what i meant ,so how do synchronize the internal to the external.

Hmm.. depends on your hardware. If you can explain your setup a little more, i.e.- what kind of router and how are the boxes behind it set up?
