I have an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe mobo with a 2.8GHz Intel cpu, 875P chipset.

Ever since I installed it I can't get a "device" called SM Bus to install. I gather this is short for System Management Bus.

I note on a Google search I'm not the first to run into this. The advice I read was to install the right chip set drivers. I have, so far as I know, even retried with the latest from Asus and the latest drivers from MSI for this card.

Anybody run into this?

My problem is that the video in port on my MSI G4MX440 video card doesn't see the video in. I am trying to capture video from a VCR.

I captured a bunch of video from a digital video cam using the firewire input on a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 board in the same machine..

Nothing else on the pc seems to be amiss--just the inability of my capture software to "see" the video port on the MSI video card. It was on a bullletin board that I saw the suggestion that the lack of SM Bus will cause this problem.

Thanks GSD. You are on the money. I just downloaded the chipset driver from Intel, installed it and it appears the System Management Bus is installed.

It doesn't seem to be the problem with no recognition of the video port on the MSI card, though. So, still a little more research to do.

try reinstalling older or newer Nvidia graphics drivers until you solve it. Make sure DX9b is current also. Search google. This is a driver(graphics) problem

Do you think the access to the video port on the MSI video card depends on installing the MSI Multimedia Center software? I seem to have accidentally given the install cd away with an MSI mobo I gave to a buddy who was on hard times. Sent him an e-mail asking he look and let me know.

On the otherhand, I have downloaded the MSI driver software for this card and installed it without joy. They don't offer the Multimedia Center program on their web site. I suspect the problem is more along the lines you are sugesting.

MSI Multimedia Center software
Yes thats the ticket. I have a Asus 5200 Video Suite on my HTPC and it requires the multimedia software to function properly

OK GSD, I couldn't find the cd's that came with the MSI board and my buddy doesn't have them.

I found the necessary nVidia capture driver on the nVidia site. It works. Strange I could not find that driver on MSI's site. I even found drivers via a google search on two sites that post many such drivers.

So now, the video in on the MSI G4MX440 works. I was so digusted, I was ready to buy something new today. Spent most of 2 days on this project.

Thanks for encouraging me. I was really at wits end.

As a conclusion to this little fiasco;

There were 2 problems. Not being smart enough to install the chip drivers.

And #2 not setting the BIOS up correctly so the capture software recognized the capture port on the video card.

The BIOS set up on this P4C800 very complex compared to my past experiences. It certainly is not intuitive and there is hardly any explanation. Now it's working OK after I guessed at some parameters.
