One of the world?s most known memory experts ? Transcend ? released its new registered PC3200 memory modules for server applications in general and AMD Opteron-powered solutions in particular. Transcend?s new 1GB PC3200 memory modules feature ECC, CL3, auto & self refresh (7.8us refresh interval) and are built upon FBGA chips to ensure maximum stability and reliability. The modules are double-sided and are of 1.2? height.

First versions of AMD Opteron processors unveiled in April 2003 supported only PC2700 ECC registered memory modules, but starting from mid-November 2003 some AMD Opteron x46 processors and all x48 chips gained support for PC3200 memory functioning at 400MHz as well. According to AMD, this provides up to 28% speed improvement in a number of applications demanding high memory bandwidth.

At present there are very few PC3200 memory modules for AMD Opteron systems certified by Advanced Micro Devices. Those products are from Kingston, Viking, Micron and Samsung.

Intel Corporation, the world?s No.1 supplier of x86 server components, currently does not support PC3200 ECC memory by its core-logic components for mission-critical applications. The world?s largest chipmaker is not really likely to support PC3200 by its server or workstation chipsets at all, as its next-generation components, such as E7710 and E7510 (previously code-named Lindenhurst and Lindenhurst-VS), will sport DDR PC2700 and DDR-II PC2-3200 memory only.

In a separate announcement today Transcend also unveiled its RADEON 9600 SE graphics cards with 128MB of memory designed for entry level personal computers.

Pricing and time of availability were not touched upon for the newly announced graphics card and memory module.
