unicorn is on a distinguished road
I vaguely remember a Norton recycle bin that used to be a part of all that Norton stuff. Find it, rightclick it and either empty it or set it to zero-size (disabling it) or both maybe... Not everybody needs two recycle bins. Maybe this doesn't help a shit. Sorry for beeing so unprecisely. I ditched all Norton stuff way back but that is another topic (I mean, what do you need it for?)

Like Unicorn said, "Norton protected" is like a second recycle bin.

To see whats in it you need to right click on the recycle bin and select "properties".
Under the recycle bin tab, choose "Double clicking opens all protected files".

To disable it go to the "Norton Protection" tab, hit the button to empty protected files, then uncheck the box "enable protection".
You may be suprised at all the junk in there and how much space it was taking.

Indeed. And you forget about it, so I emptied the norton recycle bin and then disabled it in "Properties" when you right click on the bin. If you disable it before purging it, you can't get rid of the deleted files later.

Have you tried searching your hard drive for the exact files?

Make sure you tick search hidden folders.

If someone else has been on your computer and deleted them you should be able to get them back by purchasing some undelete software like Norton :P undelete then change your user/pass

Hope this helps
