Installing Plex 708A TLA 1.03
Anybody have problem installing this drive??
All software(Nero 6.3.0.0, newest Alcohol 120 . ....and Roxio that came with the drive) says there is no drive.
In My Computer it shows up but it does not see any disk in the drive, and it says "please insert disk"
In device manager it shows as a AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CD-ROM device and it says it ie working properly. The Microsoftdriver is is dated 1 July, 2001.
I have it set as slave, just like the Liteon 48X CD burner that I just took out.
I had the DMA on then off, but that made no difference.
Also, I removed it and put the Liteon CD burner back in , hooked up to exactly the same cables and it works perfectly, just like before.
The Plex does power on and tries to initialize each CD put in the drive, but gives up after a few seconds.
DID your show as a SCSI drive?
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
In the last 8 years I have never had any problem setting up any burner or other drives.
I run Win XP Pro, with SP-1.

I installed a Plex 708A a week ago and it was recognized by Windows XP without any difficulty.
Nero and Alchohol work well with it and I have burned a number of DVD disks, both - and +R
I put the 708A as master and my 52X Samsung burner as slave.
No they don't show as SCSI, both being IDE
Make sure you've got the jumpers on your drives set properly and the cable hooked up the way you want it. I didn't change DMA settings.

I suspect that is a virtual drive put there by either CloneCD or AnyDVD. Do you have either of those installed?
And my 708A was recognized just fine.

moen,
Does your BIOS see it? If not, you may have a connection issue. I also agree that you should set the 708A as your primary drive and have your other CD drive as the slave.

to Belthazor....I agree that it is a virtual drive. both Alcohol and Nero show a virtual drive when the plex is installed. I HAD CloneCD installed.
I got a new drive just to eliminate that possibility. I will try putting it to master. I have installed and reinstalled burner softwares a couple of times.
I just cannot figure out why WinXP assigned it a driver dated 1 July 2001. There must be newer ones but not on Plextor's or Microsoft's sites. Plextor says WinXP has the correct drivers.
Could there be a Nero problem???

In device manager it shows as a AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CD-ROM device
Remove alcohol and clone, check the device manager and remove that scsi device, it is installed with alcohol. after those are un-installed then install your drive and then clone and alcohol.

yes Kamikazee is correct; DON't use the virtual drives that Alchohol and Clone cd try to install; that can cause problems with certain CDR's/DVDr..

thanks...I did not erase the programs or the virtual drive, as I was trying other things.
I installed the new Plex as master, and my Liteon burner as slave and then rebooted. then the Plex and the Liteon burners were both fine.
BUT...then I used Alcohol to burn a music CD with the Liteonreading and Plex burning, using the Copy Wizard. It seemed to go finebut when finished burned CD was NOT readable by either drive.
I used Copy CD image to HD method.
Also with Plex as Secondary master the Liteon burner works fine as slave. but if the Plex or the Liteon CD-ROM is slave then nothing reconized the Secondary slave. It does not exist in the BIOOS, or in MY Computer, and no burn program recognizes the Secndary Slave drive.
I will re-install all the burn Progs

Check this changelog:/http://forum.alcohol-software.com/index.php?showtopic=9018
You'll notice that there were issues with Alcohol 120% and the Plex.....do you have the latest version installed?
