Your threads about your ftp-client (Stuffftp) seems to be deleted, or vanished rather, when the forums database whent corrupt. Sad, but not irreparable.
After your post where you announced the update to version 0.11a... I updated my 0.10a version, played around a little and understood that this must not be the best way to accomplish the goal.
Now I am not a programmer. In fact I don't do anything at all with computers for a living, I'm a trained nurse at a psychiatric clinic, I'm just found in computers along with other interests, like psychoses, cigars, whisky, photography and other things. Saying this just so that you better can give my opinions the correct value. (As you now also can see I'm not native Englishspoken, I can only hope you understand my thoughts in this matter.)
Anyway: I have done some thinking (and I admit it was kinda hard...
)
Starting a programming project, that must be pretty hard... A lot of things to think about. Normally when organizing things here at my work I start not with the action, but rather by doing a specification about what I want to achieve, or accomplish. Then i take the next step which most often is to together with other discuss different ways to get there.
Shouldn't one do the same with a programming (coding?) project? While trying the updated version I hade the same reflections as when I tried version 0.10, except that some of them changed slightly. For example, I wished for a possibility to use other ports but port 21. You made that possible, but now I adjusted my wish to be something like "Aport of my choice, but port 21 as the default". The same goes for the Site manager that I wished for. You added a site manager. Now i wish for a Site manager where you can edit the entries, and a possibility to import sites from other site managers, and so on... This can't be the right way to go.
What are your goals? If you are interested in coding the best ftp client ever made I'll be happy to somehow take part ion some way. But then we should start with a discussion about the goal, what do we want this ftp-client be able to do? What should the interface be like? What features are wished for and wish ones are not? What about the architecture; should plugins be an option, what should be hardcoded and what is to be left to the user to set?
Something like that. It will be interestening to see what you think about this.
