Alrighty, I'm curious I would like to wax and detail my car, which is a 1992 ford festiva (2 door clown car, i know yuk it up! ). Well needless to say its got lots of oxidation, and looks bad, I had it waxed once but now it looks bad again (waxed a while back) I dont want to pay big dollars to have a professional do it, so this is what I was told to use, can anyone tell me if this is right?

1. Wash Car throughly, with dawn dish detergent (removes old wax and stuff)
2. TurtleWax Rubbing Heavy Duty Compound Cleaner (removes oxidation and stains)
3. Apply Mothers Phase 3 Pure Carnauba Wax Non Abrasive Form.
4. Let stand for 20 minutes (go get a sandwich and come back or something)
5. Wipe off, and repeat as necessary.
6. After detailing car exterrior (couple hours later) use Black Magic Wet Shine Spray

Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

This was the only forum that I felt like was family and only place here to ask this question, I guess its a change of pace from the computer world

Thanks for any help,
~PCTech

Well, after 20+ years in the Automotive business, and owning over 30 cars in my lifetime, I feel pretty qualified to answer this one:

Wash car with car wash, NOT Dawn!
Any compound will work, just dont use POLISHING compound, use RUBBING compound
Once you rub the compound off, then use ANY cleaner/wax the first time to clean the leftover compound off, and leave the first "coat" of wax

Anytime thereafter, use a PURE Carnuba wax; Mothers is excellent, but there are others..
Don't bother with the Wet Shine Spray; you wont need it if you do this right!
Wax at least 3 times per year, and your paint will last forever!

Good luck, and rest your arms up!!!

I had a '93 Festiva myself a while back. Great little car. Got almost 200,000 miles out of her.

My good old car has 109686 Miles on it! A far cry from 200,000 but its right on up there considering I drove from Ft Bragg to home every weekend doing about 80 - 90 mph the whole way depending on traffic and if my radar was going off or not. I drove the dog pee out of it and almost killed it, so now I gotta baby it till I can get enough money to either replace the engine or buy a new car. I want to get it looking really good so If i do sell it, it might bring more already looking good. Its Red, and it has been waxed about 8 months ago, but I didn't keep it up, so I'm going to strip it and start over with waxing again! The engine is in REALLY bad shape, blowing oil, and has a couple really bad leaks (its blowing oil out from under the hood to on top of the hood and leaking oil around the right front head light). I'm gonna baby it and try to keep it as long as I can. Anyone got a spare 1.3L Ford Motor for a festiva lying around? J/K, but if anyone can help let me know! Thanks for all the advice, i'm going to try and wax her this weekend, as they are calling for some snow and stuff tomorrow!

Thanks Again,
~PCTech

Actually I feel grateful to you for diversifying the topics discussed in Chit-Chat forum.
I think this is also another prospect of having a Chit-Chat forum - it doesn't always need to be computers.
We need bit more real-life talks apart from what's inside this computer screen.

That's what the chitchat forum is here for guys....fire away.

And sorry for the late 2 cents, but I don't use wax. I use a great little product called Astro Glide. I've been using it since about '98, and if you use it 2 or 3 times a year and do it right, you get a great bead year round.
