I recently installed WindowsXP onto my sister and brother-in-law's computer. I set them up with their own accounts.

Do any of you know if User Switching is possible while holding an internet connection made by Netzero from one account to the other?

Usually, with standard Dialup ISPs you can select to share the connection beteween accounts... This is not an option with Netzero.

They are currently using the newest version of Netzero.

So, is it possible to switch users and stay connected to the internet when the first account logs on?

TIA!

What do you mean. What do you want to do. But yes I can do that, if I think I know what you mean. Please state what you wish to do first.

Still have to use the damn software to dial in because they now check to make sure their dialer made the connection.

Hey war59312,

Thanks for the quick reply... So basically, this is the deal:

Let's say my sister signs on to Netzero under her account, while signed on, my brother-in-law wants to User Switch into his account and still be online (since my sister already signed on). Is this possible with Netzero... I know you can't get around the software - which sucks... I do know it is possible with other standard dial-up ISPs that don't require any stupid software other than the use of the DUN...

So is it possible to accomplish this?

Thanks,
-SlickVic78

Why would he want to switch? That's what I'm saying.

Because you can still check your e-mail and everything from both accounts. If they are using it for free then it wont matter if you use different accounts because both will be counted towards the hours on your account. 10 hours and bye bye, wont matter if you use 100 different accounts...

so thats what I'm wondering?

if your paying for then ok but still why?

Here is what I have setup.

On my old computer for when my cable goes out it has netzero on it, free 10 hours a month only.

What I do is logon through one account using their software then run my little program which kills the software and banner etc, but still keeps me connected. I do this as soon as your connected before it even adds the banner, etc to the screen.

I have not tried doing two or more users but I imagine u could just then rerun the software and pick a different user and tell it to connect via cable/dsl or whatever its called.

They are paying for the Platinum verion of the service... Which is stupid because you still have that banner showing up (only thinner - so it doesn't take up as much screen space)...

The reason why I asked if user switching was possible was because they have their own settings and favorites, etc... My brother-in-law likes his settings and my sister as well - the reason for setting up the 2 seperate accounts in the first place...

I guess it isn't possible... Well, doesn't really matter being I just found out they are thinking of moving on to broadband! So then they wont have that problem.

Thank anyway!

What do you mean by favorites and everything. Why dont u just make two totaly different accounts in windows. That should take care of it, no?

Exspically if they are running winxp.

They can just use the admin account when they need to install programs that need it, etc. Better safe, then sorry.

But yea great news, i love broadband. I never wont to go back to 56k again!!!!!

Hey war59312,

I don't think you are fully following what I've been saying... My sister has her own settings she likes, where my brother-in-law has his own... Rather than having one account they share - which would combine all of their Internet Explorer favorites, and word, excel document etc, customizing Windows they each like it... (just 3 examples), I gave them their own accounts... This way my sister can set up windows the way she wants, and my brother-in-law can do the same for himself. That is one reason why they now have WindowsXP.

The admin account is my account to help fix all of the issues (that is if there ever is an issue) that may surface within either my sister's account or my brother-in-law's account. So using the admin account just for Netzero is out of the question. It also defeats the purpose have letting them have their own accounts in the first place.

So, from what I've tried, it doesn't seem possible to do user switching while one account is connected to the internet using Netzero and once switched, that user may use the connection to the internet that was made by the other account... For now, they will just have to sign out and then sign back in once they are in their own account - that is until they hook themselves up with broadband - then there will be no problems for sure!

Oh thats what you mean. Yea I can do that. Yea I'm sorry now I got you. Finally you expalined it right. lol

At least it should work in theory, have not tried it yet. But sure it will. Since I can trick it saying connected via DUN. Just like a normal dialup account.

If you would please run the attachement first so we can get that out of the way. Of course on the admin account on their computer.

Just get on aim, msn, yahoo, icq, or irc and send me a message and I will walk you through it.

Look at my profile for info.

Shold be on till 11pm estern time.

cya,
Will

Hey Will,

Unfortunately, I will not be able to run the attachment you provided being that the computer is not here with me.

I'll have no problems running the attachment on my sister's computer next time I am around her place...

What other steps were there? If you can PM me the other info, the next time I am at my sister's home, I can run through the rest of the steps, and of course, if I do run into any more issues, I'll be sure to contact you.

Thanks,
-SlickVic78
