From now on, you can upload your avatars directly from your pc to the forum. Please note that it still has the restrictions of 75x75 and 10kb max.
Until now, the avatars were stored in the database, and not only linked, but literally stored. so every avatar caused its size in not only server traffic, but mysql traffic. i believe some of the mysql timouts we all have already received came from this, so i installed a new hack that stores the avatars now as plain files on the server. this wont change anything in overall traffic, but (and i hope seriously) decrease mysql traffic.
please report any strange behaviour of the avatars.
