I went to empty my recycling bin and it came up with a confirm delete of "WINDOWS"  I said no, and chen checked the Recycling bin, there is nothing in it. I hit restore all, and it just makes an odd noise.  XP pro... I have a lot of stuff that I can't loose, and I have no way of putting in my other hard drive to transfer everything to.. Has anyone ever heard of this... anyone have any advise...

Have it happen all the time.* Delete files, then empty Recycle bin.* Still looks like stuff in it so try to empty again.* Says can't delete windows. Reboot machine and bin will be empty.* Haven't found what causes it, but haven't lost any files from it either.* Noticed it seems to happen more when working with media files.

Forgot, also can make a new text document on desktop.  Delete it and empty recycle bin and it will now be empty.

Same thing here, I do the same, either re-boot or make a .txt file and delete it.

I've actually come across this aswell with norton 2002 & 2003 installed, what happens is the norton saftey bin is enabled... if you have items in the bin while you disable the saftey bin feature with norton, you cannot clear the "full bin" icon to the "empty bin" icon..

Until you re-enable the saftey bin, then remove the files, then finally un-enable the feature, it will work for you..

onother flaw with MS

Here is the full fix. And no dont have norton protected recycle bin.

First you have to make visible all the files in Recycle Bin:

On NTFS disks
cd \RECYCLER
attrib -R -A -S -H /S /D

On FAT32 disks
cd \Recycled
attrib -R -A -S -H /S /D

As soon the corrupted file was visible I got a message from windows:

Found corrupt files in Recycled Bin
please run chkdsk, so I did

chkdsk /F /R /X

I emptied Recycled bin again, and voila empty.

Hi, I have a unique recycle bin problem as well. After reading this thread thought ur fix would help, but after following ur tip I get this message:
Unable to change attribute - D:\RECYCLED\DD0\Powerq\Part\1\IOUSEσ.INI

when emptying the recycle bin, it empty's all but 1 then tells me:
Quote:
"cannot delete IOUSEσ Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name"
blah blah blah.
It's happens in both win98 and xppro on a dual boot rig.
Anyone know what this is or how to fix (besides a format)

I thought was finally rid of the weird recycle bin issue been having 6 mos now.
:grrr:

del been there done that, access denied ring a bell?
file not found?...

tried changing attributes, using wildcards, groups, voodoo, nothing seems to be drastic enough for that sucker...

I tried nasty, truly massive, wholesale slaughter using the DEL command in dos with wildcards, BLAM, should'a been gone.

No question, it's gotta be read only with a CURSE!

Still there, when i say still there... i mean the message still is received, the friggin file itself is cloaked, invisible dude... more

The problem is I don't know where it is or where it came from
Quote:
cannot delete (""IOUSEσ"") Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name
is the message windows spits back at me when emptying the recycle bin via right mouse click then choosing >> empty recycle bin. If i knew where it came from it would be cake.

Notice in the word "IOUSE" (in the quote box)? teh next character after da "E" is unicode. wassup with that? lightbulbs goin off yet?

aight i get back to this on the rebound, thanks for helping wase4711
lates, jiz

EDIT1:
doobie in hand sum time 2 kill, jumped into dos and navigated to:
D:\ cd recycled
recycled >> dir
DD0 >> dir
POWERQ >> dir
Part >> dir
1 >> dir
.
..
IOUSE* INI 0 03- 30-01 8:38am

IOUSE* (* = the unicode character) that i dunno how to type in.

sorry if the following is jibberish, st***d again :P

* has me at standstill dunno how to key in special uni char to go to teh next level.
Code:
D:\Recycled\DD0\Powerq\Part\1
Code:
. .. IOUSE* INI 0 03- 30-01 8:38am IOUSE*
dot =current dir, then dot dot = parent dir then i see IOUSE plus that damn unicode char so that is where i am, not sure how to type that special char the one after the "E" in IOUSE*
IOUSE* INI 0 03- 30-01 8:38am

Not sure if I wanna DEL that anyway since i dunno what lies in there unless it's a ghost from a long gone partition. wase4711 or anyone thinks of something lemme know, thanks, jiz

Edit2:
In da past i never dug deep enuff, with a lil help here...
Thank you very much Mr. wase4711
