i heard mixing reports, maybe it was a lightning that caused an overload which resulted in a fire
but yea, they are pretty affirmative it wasnt any malicious act of terrorism. accedents do happen

Well, whatever caused this to happend, it still sucked! I was getting ready to leave the office in NYC for my very unpleasant commute home when the power went down. I was pretty much stuck in the city for the night... Everything is outta whack there - power may be coming back, but the traffic lights aren't working on each corner. I started my journey home early this morning and happened to find an alternate route... Took longer to get home, but, at least I am home now.

It seems to me that unless some idiot did something wrong, it should not have been over such a large area. I was one of the 50 million that didn't have any power. We actually had two failures in SouthWest Ontario.
(Edit - - added the 'not')

I seem to be the only one who voted other.
I think it was outdated equipment.
Anyway, it took my house down for 6 hours. I almost went into cyber-withdrawl.

Well I'm not sure myself they said it was caused firstly by the lightning that hit the power plant on the U.S. of the Niagra Region but there have also been talk that it was caused by something wrong in Ohio which I am not certain. I live in Toronto and was hit by this.. I was actually mowing the lawn at the time and at the moment when I had jsut finished the power went off.. I was wondering why the central air conditioner had suddenly turned off... THis has been a trying two days and apparently there will be many more till monday.. Power here is bing gradually brought back however there isnt enough of it and there are rolling blackouts as in they switch a section of the city offline from the power to bring another to life for a while.. Hopefully it wont happen here but who knows? We shall see! (I must say someone better upgrade that power grid or at least set it that ppl dont have to rely on one grid alone so that this wont happen!
