I recently replaced my old Teac 4x2x32 with a new LiteOn 40125w. My old Teac happily shared IDE channel with an old Maxtor 1.1gb disk (I use that disk to transfer data between computers I don't have network access to. Yes, it is the only way for me atm).

The LiteOn does not like to share the IDE channel. I tried switching between master/slave/cable select. But it only results in the cdrw not willing to burn nor read more than the first file/folder on cds!

Is there any other solution than buying an extra IDE controller? the cdrw does a great job as long as the hdd isn't connected.

I had a friend with some trouble with the Liteon. He had to update the firmware on the burner.

Your best bet is to look around the liteon website and see if this is a known problem.

Most likely its MB BIOS issue

My CDRw will not recognise by my MB if it's slave to the primary channel !

but no problem as Master on the secondary channel ?

Don't know why ?

it work!
Ask your friend to swap the drive between Master/slave may help!

My friend has a new CDRW only work if he use the 40 pin IDE cable ..but having burning problem with 80 pin cable, this can be
another possibility as well

My mb recognizes all 3 hdds and the cdrw correctly in the bios. It is when I'm trying to use the cdrw in WindowsXP I got problems.

I tried changing the connection settings in the bios to see if it made a difference. It did not.

I already got 2 hdds on my primary channel. And I would prefer not to swap them, because the primary channel supports udma/66, and the second only udma/33.
