Installed an external Maxtor USB2 drive on my system. Works fine on the pc it's hooked to, but access to it is denied by the 2 other comperters on the LAN. WinXP on all.

Anybody know if this is peculiar to usb drives? Everything normal, toherwise. USB2 card installed functioning, sharing set.

Installed SP-1 and bingo the external usb2 drive is recognized.

The sp-1 install is on a dual boot partition. I also tried a clean install of WinXp (no sp-1) taking care to install the new Intel USB 2 drivers before hooking up the usb2 hub, then installing the new Adaptec 2.2 usb drivers. It workedd. But now after several days and having done various things, like windows updates and other things I can't pin down, the usb2 drive is no longer usable by the LAN. It shows, but won't respond, yet works fine on the pc to which it is hooked.

It's pretty certain that the WinXP updates fouled up the usb2 situation. It's also clear that SP-1 addresses the usb2 issue. Restored my system with a disk image and the drive is again available over the LAN. Not gonna update from the MS Update page. Got the sp-1 running in a test system, but going to wait for the final on my normal system.
