I can CONFIRM its existance on Windows XP and Windows XP SP1, (corporate versions from an AIO CD). I can also confirm the key does not exist in Windows 2003 server. It certainly looks suspicious. Can anoyne with a different WinXP version confirm this (Home/Pro retail, etc)?
I have not tried removing it and take your word for it that it causes problems. The key seems to be empty, and permissions on it are the same as other keys in that tree. Can you remember exactly what happened when you removed it?
