Hey ppl,

My PC is using windowsXP, and sometimes when it is at idle, with no extra programs running, my HDD led light flashes every 2 seconds, and my CPU usage shows to be 100%. This all happens when the computer is doing nothing!!!

It also slows down the performance of my PC. This problem doesnt happen always, but when it does, its very annoying! I have ran Anti-virus software, and trojan removers, and they all have found nothing. Anybody know what this could be? And how to solve it? Any information would be appreciated.

Later ppl

Do you have a firewall such as ZoneAlarm?

OK what else do you have running at startup? Look at icons by your clock (bottom right), do Alt-Crtl-Del and see what is taking up your 100% CPU usage.

I said ZoneAlarm because I have had problems with it hogging CPU usage.

Also download this:

http://studserver.uni-dortmund.de/~s...spybotsd12.exe

and run it.

What process is consuming all this performance? I didn't figure that out from the info you gave...

Hi Cactus,

During a session, when its happening, i went into the windows task manager and then processes, and this is what it said:
taskmgr.exe 37
update.exe 32
taskmgr.exe 31

I have no idea why there are 2 taskmgr.exe, but they seem to be using most of my CPU.

DoG will become famous soon enoughDoG will become famous soon enough
Send a message via ICQ to DoG Send a message via MSN to DoG Send a message via Yahoo to DoG
And whatever is auto updating could be causing a lot of disk activity. Try disabling taskmgr and see if that helps
