Hi

I was not sure which forum to post my question in so I thought I'd try this one and hope it's ok?

Ok, over the last few days, I have noticed that a couple of odd .text files have appeared on my C drive. I can delete the files but they appear back at the next boot up. I've never ever seen these files before and I have installed nothing different to what I normally install after a format and restore (XP Per) (unless ....... I've always used Intel boards and processors but, over the last week, I upgraded my motherboard, processor and RAM to an Elite L7VTA, AMD Athlon XP and 512MB 333Mhz DDR ....... could this be what's causing these text files to appear)?

The files are called:

Pollog.txt (1Kb) and PollSt (2Kb)

The contents of the Pollog text file are:

-15:05:04:046-0x000007e0...Loading instance 0x400000, ThreadID = 0x7e0

The contents of the PollSt text file are:

-15:51:00:734-0x000007d4...Calling StartServiceCtrlDispatcher()
-15:51:00:765-0x000007d8...Entering CNTService::ServiceMain()

-15:05:04:046-0x000007e0...Leaving CNTService::Initialize()

Anyone got any idea what these files are and what is causing them to appear on my drive?

Regards

I've noticed these files as well... I am thinking they are coming from one of the HotFixes on WindowsUpdate... Not sure which one, but, as usual - I could be wrong...

ATI HotKey Poller after installing Catalyst 3.4 Driver Suite.

Find it here:- System Configuration Utility, Services, ATI HotKey Poller.

Hey Big POPPA Pump,

Thanks for pointing that out... This is true - The Catalyst 3.4 drivers happened to be the last thing I installed when I started noticing these files... Do you or anyone else know what purpose they serve?

Thanks,
-SlickVic78

Hi Big POPPA Pump

Yep, that did it. Many thanks.

I've disabled the service until I know what purpose they serve, and, after reboot, the text files were no longer there on C:

Here is one site that might help.
A good site to bookmark, too - not just for ATI cards.
