i am confused, not hard really, with all the terms for ram. i have a PIII 1gig running 512 of ram, this i think is sdram?. if i want to go to a P4 can i use that ram, was looking at the Asus P4B???, i believe they do one that will use a 'normal' power supply

thanks for any help

tony

Yes the P4B will work fine with PC133 sdram. You might have PC100 ram though, you didn't say what Plll you are running.
The new Asus P4 uses DDR Ram,[P4B266] and considering the P4's thirst for bandwidth, this is the chipset I would run {I hate Rambus}.
Yep it is tough ,stuck with all that sdram. Do yourself a favor and get a couple sticks of 256MB DDR ram now before the price climbs further up the pole.
You could still get an ok dollar for the sdram if you put it up for sale on another tec board.
Yes they will both use your existing {decent} power supply.

thanks Spark25, to ask a question on your reply, if i did go for ddr on the p4b266 do i have to put the memory in in pairs, its just that you mention buying 2 256 chips or is it that that is the cheapest way

thanks, tony

You don't really have to buy DDR RAM in pair. The buying in pair thing only applies to RDRAM. I think he said to get the DDR in pair so you'll end up with the same amount of RAM as your current system.

SDRAM epecically the PC133 isn't good enough for P4. RAMBUS is best. DDR is all right.

I am getting ready to build either a P4 1.6 or maybe 2g system - and was going to go with the Intel Motherboard 845 chipset using the PC133 memory - mainly because I have so much of it. Is this a bad idea? How much faster is the DDR over the PC133.
Bloomin' memory prices have gone mad :-(

A P4 1.6a can be easily overclocked to 2g. Just buy a 1.6a G CPU and overclock it. My boss' 1.6a is overclocked on a MSI mobo.

Don't use PC133, get DDR. If you want to use PC133 then go with AMD.
