I don't think it's because of P4. Just tried mine, and it took about 3 seconds. I use RegVac (novice mode) to clean my registry.

Hey ~*McoreD*~

For me, if I click on the Add/Remove Programs Icon, it goes to an hourglass mouse cursor for like 20 seconds, then the list appears. But after the first time, it will then pop up in the matter of 2 or 3 seconds... I don't know if it is the amount of programs I have installed because I have more Window "Hotfixes" in my list than installed programs Really doesn't matther being it isn't like an every day thing that I need to use. So I guess I'll live with it for now...

Thanks,
-SlickVic78

Yes SlickVic78, you are right and we both are in the same opinion. .
What I actually meant was "the number of items" in the Add/Remove Programs. I just used the word "programs" (that's wrong use of words).

Hey ~*McoreD*~

It is still kinda odd that it would take so long to build the list... What else is it looking for when it builds the list, the amount of space each prog takes up, and if it is used often... What else could it be doing?

I used to have an AMD Athlon 1900+ with 1 Gig of PC2100 DDR Ram and the same amount of installs (actually the same list), and this never happened... This is why I asked I am wondering if it could be due to one of the Hotfixes off of Windows Update that could have caused this?

It takes a few seconds to load that up. I have a Celeron 900 (wannabe P3) w 512 MB SDRAM, 20 GB WD HDD. Could be the P4. I've heard other 'issues' with that CPU especially with the new ones above 2GHz.

Well mine says "please wait while the list is being populated" for about half a sec. and it loads fine.

I clean the registry every night and de-frag every week.

There is about 500 "Programs" listed.

AlthlonXP 2200+ 1.8Ghz @ 2.3Ghz and 1536MB DDR RAM

I have 43GB of free space left too.

My old P3 600mhz has about 100 programs installed or so and it takes about 10secs. to load every time. With 11gb of free space and 192mb pc133 ram. Only 45mb of free ram and when I launch add/remove the cpu is used at 100% until it loads and only 15mb of free RAM. I don't know how people last with only 128mb.

Might be a bug since it only uses about 38% of my cpu on my Althlon.

And yea I have the update installed. And same thing before I installed. It did fix other issues though like ie loading slow.

Now I am starting to think it effects pentium systems the most because my friends old AMD 350mhz machine loads add/remove in about 6secs. and he has at least 200 programs installed. And he only has 128mb of ram.

Hey war59312,

Thanks for that info! It's rather odd, because some people have this issue, and some don't. I don't remember this ever happening before SP-1... I could be wrong though. Maybe SP-2 would resolve this. But like I said, it's not like I use Add/Remove everyday, so I can deal with the slow load up time.

Ok everyone. I believe my problem is solved... Here is the solution:

For anyone who owns an Intel with a compatible chipset, I totally recommend you download and install Intel's Application Accelerater program. After doing so, I noticed my systems had a boost in speed! Things were loading up so much faster! My Add/Remove program issue is now solved and am getting the expected behavior as I once had

The link: hxxp://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/iaa/

Hope this helps all those who are/were experiencing the issue I was having!
