IE 6.0 freezing my computer.

After running fine for hours, I lately (2 to 3 weeks) get a total freeze on my IE, NOT ON RUNNING PROGRAMS, on Windows 2000.

Cannot close individual IE windows.

Ctrl-Alt-Del does not help.

I posted this issue on XP solution.

Never seen it on W2000.
Anyone has a solution???

Hi felixml, at this point there are several variations to IE6.0. Depends on which Hotfixes you have applied or if you applied SP1 etc. Some of the Hotfixes caused more problems than they solved. Or in some ways fixed one thing, but broke something else in the process. It could be that you have a combination of things going on now which you may not be able to get out of, without doing a reinstall.

I had to reinstall once some time ago to get out of some IE6.0 issues. If you do a reinstall now then I would only use the newest changes that are needed, and not try the old stuff that has been superseded by now.

Unfortunately I cannot unistall/reinstall 6.0.
I do not have it somehow in "add/remove programs" anymore.

Any advice on that?

Hi felixml, actually by "Reinstall" I ment all of WinXP. IE6.0 is tied into the system as tightly as M$ can make it for the benefit of the DOJ....

No, it is on W2000, and, of course, I will not reinstall OS because of that.

I am running my computers in a very heavy environment with serious applications.

Bads is an unknown quantity at this point
With add-remove plus, you can remove the SP1 and reinstall it

But the trick to reduce the slowdown of ie6 is from you !

Did you test it before post it ?

I've read tweakxp article and talked to my MCSEs, which are not always "sure".

Worked like a charm.
I have no SP1 beta install.
DL is gone from all sites.
