Hi Jupiter2k, I would suggest having a look at the "Agfa" scanners. They support their Products better than HP does....

i've been using a visioneer 8100 scanner. it has usb and parallel hookup. after you download the update for xp the one touch buttons work. can't give you much more details because i bought it as at an auction that we have on tv here that buys returned and closeout merchandise and most of the time you don't get a box or anything. I didn't even get a parallel or usb cable or a power adapter.

All LATEST scanners work with XP, at least they should.
Haven't seen one that does not out of the box.

I ask mustek for a driver for my 600 usb scanner who only works in windows 98 and this is the answer I receive :

This Technical Support E-mail is from Mustek Product Specialist, Mike.
Date: 02/12/2002

Thank you for your patience, we have a release schedule in place for our
most
current scanners and will be working on mostly supporting the more recent
USB
scanners in Windows XP. We are also currently working on creating solutions

and/or work arounds for older scanners that may not have a Windows XP
driver
created for them. PLease continue to check our website for updates. We
will
also be placing your email on a list to be notified if your product will
have a driver
for Windows XP. We do not have a date on the release of the drivers at this

time.

Thank you,
Mustek, INC

Ugh...I hate that crap Bads1. I have the same problem with my Interact Hammerhead controller. Their best PC controller ever and they don't plan on supporting it anytime soon. It sort of works with XP, but there is no button remapping, no vibration feedback, no extra features, etc.

I think many places are doing this because they think that you will go out a buy a new one from them. What I did was shoot off another nasty email to a customer service manager saying that I refuse to buy another one of their products ever again if they don't give proper support for their product. Why would I after all if they don't support their own products? I also said that I would also post on message boards and other places for people to avoid their products and about what lousy support they had. Try it and see what happens.
