THE INTEL FAB at Leixlip in Ireland has started manufacturing flash memory at .13 micron, after spending millions on upgrading the site.
The fab, which is on the site of a former stud farm, has spent a total of $4 billion so far on the factory in Ireland, employing over 3,000 people.

Intel generally introduces new processing techniques at plants and then mirrors them worldwide as it shifts from one technology to another.

By using a smaller process, Intel can make more chips from the same sized silicon wafer, resulting in it being able to reduce prices and also increase performance.
