SPOT PRICES ON DDR SDRAM have taken a swift turn for the worse, at least as far as memory makers are concerned. Just a few days ago it seemed that prices would hold steady for Asia's New Year celebrations but it was not to be. DDR266 chips dropped and so have share prices.

The current industry barometer is Samsung Electronics. At the end of last year it had 30% of the market according to Gartner Dataquest. According to Bloomberg, Samsung shares are down 31% since the third of December and Micron has lost a fifth of its value.
