Without your knowledge or explicit permission, the Windows networking technology which connects your computer to the Internet may be offering some or all of your computer's data to the entire world at this very moment...

The ShieldsUP! tests depend upon accurately determining your computer's Internet Protocol (IP) address. If your IP address is incorrectly determined the wrong machine will be mistakenly tested. In addition, computers with multiple network connections ? like a modem and a network adapter ? can have more than one IP address. And machines with only one IP address can have it effectively "hidden" or "masqueraded" if the connection passes through any sort of firewall, proxy server, or other buffering agent.

IP Agent easily manages all such complications. It determines your machine's current IP address ? or addresses ? then contacts this ShieldsUP! website for you. If your machine had a single IP address you'll be taken right to the main ShieldsUP! page. If more than one IP address was found you'll be able to choose among the available addresses.

want to give it a go ?

then go here... https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

and when you're finished you might want to download what you'll find here...

http://grc.com/unpnp/unpnp.htm

it's UnPlug n' Pray

it works, it's free...

AND ...

The FBI has Strongly Recommended that
All Users Immediately Disable Windows'
Universal Plug n' Play Support

Go figure... h34r:" class="inlineimg" />

Send a message via MSN to Sephiroth
you can do this by hand too, just disable the SSDP Discovery Service in the services cp, and universal plug and play if it's there, though it isn't in sp1 , at least it isn't in mine

UPNP. This is an interesting subject. I enabled Upnp in my Linksys router as I was experimenting with ftp port setup.

The router kept addding forwarded ports for all the LAN pc's (3) with a label "msmsgs" .

Not sure what those are, but pretty clear it's something to do with microsoft. The whole idea of upnp is to configure networks automatically, which also allows anyone using the standard to pretty much do what they want.

I disabled those entries, but they kept re-enabling, until I disabled Upnp in the router setup screen.

One more thing to watch out for.

It is true that this server was unable to connect to your machine just now ? and that's definitely great news! But with the benefit of the incredible experience I'm gaining from the impact of this site's 17,959,054 (and counting) recent visitors, I'm rapidly evolving more robust and reliable means of determining a remote machine's Internet vulnerability.

What I could NOT do today,
I MIGHT be able to do tomorrow.

been telling me that for 2 years now certainly taking his time
